Week of the Warrior

May 15th through the 21st in known in North America as Police Week.

During Police Week, various cities hold events to honor members of their Protective Forces, those gone by and those still with them. Activities for awareness of their roles and for safety are also held.

We too honor our warrior, both magical and mundane for all that they have done for us and continue to do. We call our warriors - WARDERS. They protect our events and activities, our public ritual and our festivals. They step in to assist in many protective ways. Their path is not always an easy one and they have rarely been recognized for their efforts.

In honor of the Warrior's Path and all our community warders and protectors and warriors, Offer some thanks.

Wesak - May 17th

Wesak/Vesak (from the name of the second month in the Hindu calendar, Vaisakha) is the most holy time in the Buddhist calendar. The decision to agree to celebrate Vesak as the Buddha's birthday was formalized at the first Conference of the World Fellowship of Buddhists (W.F.B.) held in Sri Lanka in 1950. Hence on Vesak Day, Buddhists all over the world commemorate three great events: The Birth, Enlightenment and the Passing Away of Gautama Buddha. As Buddhism spread from India to all parts of the world, the teachings were readily assimilated with the cultures of the people who accepted the teachings. As a result, Buddhist art and culture took on a rich variety of forms with profound gentleness and kindness as the Buddha expressly forbade the use of force. On this day all Buddhists are expected to reaffirm their faith in the Buddha Dhamma and to lead a noble religious life. It is a day for meditation and for radiating Loving-Kindness.

Tea of the Week

This weeks tea is Tangiers Lemon White.
From the Fujian province of China this premium white tea contains all natural lemon flavours which lend a lovely sweetness to each cup.

Lemon is very good for those who do not get quite enough Vitamin C. Also comes in handy when fighting off the common cold, kidney stones, and to aid in digestion.

Come give a warm welcome to our new Monday Healer, Benoit! A graduate from the Guijek massotherapy school and a member of the federation des massotherapeutes du Quebec, Benoit is a Massotherapist for massage and therapeutic purposes. As well as being a Reiki Level 2.

Asian Heritage Month

May is Asian Heritage Month! It acknowledges the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to Canada. It also provides an opportunity for Canadians across the country to reflect on and celebrate the contributions of Asian Canadians to the growth and prosperity of Canada. Since the inaugural Asian Heritage Month in 1993 cities such as Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton and Halifax have held annual festivities.

In Montreal this year there are quite a few evenings planned in celebration. From dance classes, cultural workshops at Academy Horizon & Brossard Chinese School, even a gala cultural evening of dragon dances and more!

NEW! Healers in on Mondays

That's right! Every Monday, starting from the beginning of May, Melange Magique will be host to Healers.

Monika Marczuk, Benoit Cote, and Sylvie Lefebvre will be our in-store Healers. They will be alternating Mondays and will cost the same as our Readers ($35/half hour $70/hour).

Monika Marczuk is CRA, ECE, Reiki certified. She does Reiki, magnetism, colour healing/projection, healing through art, chakra balancing, and aura cleansing. She offers bilingual treatments to both adults and children.

Benoit Cote graduated from the Guijek massotherapy school and is a member of the federation des massotherapeutes du Quebec. He is a massotherapist for either therapeutic or massage. Also, recently initiated into Reiki Level 2 so he will be able to do some energy work as well.

Sylvie Lefebvre after many years of practice and certification, studies the arts of Reiki, Quantum Touch, and numerology. She follows her energy and instinct to decide which course of action will be best for your personal situation, health, and general well-being.

Beltane

Coming up fast is Beltane, also known as May Day. A time of growth and the celebration of fertility. This is generally the season favoured for marriage and handfasting rites as summer unfolds and life blossoms.
The Maypole is a popular Beltane celebration and one that most people readily recognize.

For Beltane there will be a public ritual held at Avalon (1564 Chemin Herron suite 207 in Dorval) on Saturday April 30th. The ritual will be starting at 6:30PM but the doors will be opening at 6:00PM. If you have any feast gear, any food or drink to share, drums, or masks please feel free to bring them along!
This year the ritual will be a Shamanic Drum ritual led by Cauldron of the Yew Grove.
All ages are welcome, of course!


Also in celebration of Beltane on Sunday May 1st here in store there will be a Sabbat Sale, where everything in store will be 10% OFF!


And just in time we happen to have our mystery blend incense in stock! As usual they will be available at the cash.

Tea of the Week

Our tea this week is the delicious Black Forest tea. If you've ever had the cake then you already know what this tastes like. This black tea, with it's blend of chocolate, cherry, and cream, add a little sugar and it tastes remarkably similar to the dessert!

Tomorrow is Easter and here in the store we're getting ready for our Easter egg hunt!

We have hidden 35 plastic eggs around the shop, each one numbered and decorated by our very own staff. Each egg is worth one special prize, but they're all surprises so there's no knowing what can be won until you find an egg!

Bismuth is a metal element that is actually grown in a laboratory. The metal is melted down, after which a rod is placed in the molten metal and pulled up slowly. This is what gives it it's crystal form and gives it it's shape as it cools down.

Earth Day is a powerful catalyst for change. The first Earth Day, spearheaded by Wisconsin Governor Gaylord Nelson and Harvard University student Denis Hayes, involved 20 million participants in teach-ins that addressed decades of environmental pollution. In 1990, two million Canadians joined 200 million people in 141 nations in celebrating the first International Earth Day. Palm Sunday is a day related to Easter and a day very popular among Voodoo and Santeria practitioners.
Use these palms to bless any space as being positive and sacred.

This weeks choice of tea is one of my personal favourites. Monk's Blend is an orange pekoe grade black tea with hints of vanilla and grenadine. Which makes this tea excellent if you're a sufferer of the end of season cold!

Black tea itself is useful in aiding the mind when it comes to memory, alertness, and general function. It is also a great purifier of the organs, particularly the heart and blood vessels.

The vanilla is used to treat fevers and increase vitality.

And the grenadine pulls it together nicely. It helps boost the immune system and is especially beneficial to the heart and blood vessels and general infections of the body.

And soon we will have Blessed Palms available for Palm Sunday. These palms are part of Judeo-Christian lore. They were paid upon the ground for Jesus to walk upon, and served to bless any space as welcoming and sacred. Traditionally, you would keep them in your home for a year, near the front door. At the beginning of Lent, they are brought to the church to be burned in a sacred flame. The ashes are then used on Ash Wednesday (the Wednesday before Passover). New palms can then be purchased the following Palm Sunday.

This year Palm Sunday is April 17th. The Magical Blend has gone out of its way to order blessed palms to be available for sale in store as of Sunday (and will be available online on or around the same day). Buy yours to help create welcoming and blessed energy in your home!

As relief efforts are still underway in Japan so goes the sale of Kannon posters at Melange Magique!

All proceeds from each poster of Kannon, the Goddess of Compassion & Mercy, goes straight to the Red Cross to aid Japan.

With ongoing earthquakes and the ever present fear of radiation poisoning Japan is still in need of help. The photo is of a famous statue of Kannon taken in Japan and is just one of the beautiful things threatened by the earthquake. Help us help Japan; every little bit counts!

Events to kick off April

Join us in store for our Penny Incense Day! On April 1st from 10AM to 12PM spend a penny for a package of our Mystery Blend incense! Limit one per client while supplies last

Also on April 1st help us raise funds for disaster relief for the people of Japan. Specially for Kwan Yin Day, from 12PM until closing (9PM) we will be selling photographs of the Japanese statue of Kannon. Each poster will be on sale for $8.00 and all proceeds will be donated to the relief effort through the Red Cross.


Bring your kids along on April 2nd for our Children's Book Day! All children's, teen, parenting, sticker/art books will be 10% off all day long!

Le printemps est finalement avec nous...meme si la chaleur tarde a arriver, le meilleur reste a venir!

Le the de cette semaine est le the blanc floral qui est compose de the blanc tres doux, aussi de fleurs de rose, lavande et jasmin.

La rose represente la beaute, et etait la fleur sacre d'Aphrodite, la deesse de l'amour.

La rose est aussi bonne pour le chakra du coeur, elles apportent aussi avec elles la capacite de donner sans rien attendre en retour!

La lavande a un effet calmant, enleve les tensions et
bon aussi pour l'amour, la protection, longevite, purification et la joie.

Le jasmin est bon pour l'amour, l'argent, et les reves prophetiques.....
Il a aussi un effet sedatif, pour ceux qui souffrent d'insomnie passagere, peut etre melange a la camomille, menthe et lavande, une tasse avant le coucher aide beaucoup a relaxer!

Earth Hour 2011

To all you environmentalists and nature friendly folk, Earth Hour is here once again!


For those of you that are not aware of what Earth Hour is, it is a moment of recognition of the impact we have on the Earth. Through raising awareness of just what kind of way we change our own environment we also raise hope of changing negative tendencies and reducing our carbon footprint.

Tonight, Saturday 26th, at 8:30pm EST people will be turning off all their lights and electronic appliances for one hour. This will be happening all over the world, people will be lighting candles and having a dinner or just taking it easy.

A lot of people think "What is the use of that? Turning lights off for only an hour?" It is not solely the act of that single hour, but the impact and the awareness it brings afterward.
After your hour is over, think to yourself about what you can do to lower your carbon footprint and help the Earth just a little bit more.


Myself? I'll be lighting some candles and finally taking a moment to learn how to play chess!

Transition Celebration!

Thursday March 31st all day long.

We will be honoring the former owner and all her wonderful hard work she put into this store over the last 19 years. She has created a beautiful shop that has supplied the Magical and Spiritual and Pagan community, as well as being a central point for news and activities.

Join us as we celebrate Debra Aubin and her contribution to our community.

She will be parting ways with the store after this day to enjoy time with her children.

Le Mélange Magique / The Magical Blend is changing ownership as of April 1st. No, this is not an April Fool’s joke. The current owner, Debra Aubin, is moving on to new challenges and two new owners in partnership, T. Scarlet Jory and Valérie Laville, are stepping up to take the reins.

Message from the Current Owner

I have been honoured to be part of this community over the past two decades. When I started up Le Mélange Magique in 1991 with my original partner Elyse, we envisioned a “small, magickal herb shop” and could not have dreamed that Le Mélange Magique would become as well-known as it is.

I have had the pleasure to meet many wonderful people over the years through the numerous festivals and fairs we have participated in or sponsored. I have been privileged to see the Montreal community grow and evolve since the first Pagan Grove meetings two decades ago. Most importantly, the staff and friends of Le Mélange Magique have been part of my personal and spiritual growth - and part of my family.

At the same time, I'm eager to begin the next phase of my life, with new challenges and an even greater focus on my family. I am leaving the store in good hands with great confidence in its future. I've worked with Scarlet for over a decade and her energy and vision will continue to move Le Mélange Magique into the future. I'm incredibly happy that Le Mélange Magique has a new, steady hand to guide it and I wish Scarlet and Valérie many years of happiness and prosperity.

Message from the New Owners

It is with great excitement that we start on this new path as owners of Le Mélange Magique. Scarlet has worked with the store since 1999 and has been involved in the Montreal Pagan community since 1994. She looks forward to better serving the magical community.

Valérie has been training in magic and Paganism for the last several years, as well as having trained in the healing field as an osteopath. She looks forward to adding a new element to the field of magic with the introduction of healing services at the store.

The Magical Blend is dedicated to offering a complete selection of products oriented towards the followers of all alternative spiritual paths, including Wicca, Paganism, Magick, Goddess Spirituality, Witchcraft, Santeria. While we have great new ideas, we will not compromise the foundations that the store has already built. We are eager to receive feedback from the community in regards to products and services they would like to see in the store.

Fresh new energy and fresh new ideas from the staff have inspired an exciting transition! Here are some of the exciting events to look forward to throughout April.

April Events

March 31^st, Thursday till 9pm: Debra will be within the store available to meet with anyone wishing to say goodbye and wish her well in her new life. Come celebrate with her!

April 1^st, Friday morning:

- Penny Incense Day: spend your lucky penny on a package of our famous Mystery Blend incense

- Kwan Yin / Kannon Day: Celebrate the Asian Goddess with us and help raise funds for Japan Relief.

April 4^th, Monday all day: Celebrate with the new owners! Yay! Meet us, asks us questions, make suggestions, and share tea with us!

April 7^th, Thursday all day and evening: World Health Day:

- Meet the various healers in our community and learn what they can do for you

- Free trials of some techniques

- Schedule full session appointments (new for the store, Mondays are healer days! See a healer instead of a reader on Mondays.)

April 22^nd, Friday: Earth Day:

- seedlings of herbs will be available for sale today

- introducing the store’s new REUSABLE cloth bags at last!

- Earth Day Ritual 7-8pm led by the store’s staff

Le Mélange Magique/The Magical Blend changera d’administration à partir du 1er Avril. Ce n’est pas une blague de poisson d’avril! La propriétaire actuelle, Debra Aubin, s’envole vers de nouveaux horizons. Deux nouvelles propriétaires, T.K. Scarlet Jory et Valérie Laville, prendront le relais de l’entreprise.

Message de la propriétaire actuelle

J’ai été honorée de faire partie de cette communauté pendant une vingtaine d’années. Quand Le Mélange Magique a été fondé en 1991, avec ma partenaire d’origine Élyse, nous pensions établir une “petite boutique d’herbes” et jamais nous n’aurions imaginé que Le Mélange Magique devienne aussi connu qu’il l’est maintenant.

J’ai eu le plaisir de rencontrer plusieurs personnes merveilleuses avec les années grâce aux festivals et foires que nous avons organisé et où nous y avons participé. J’ai eu le privilège de voir la communauté montréalaise grandir et changer depuis les premières rencontres du Pagan Grove il y a 20 ans. Le personnel et les amis du Mélange Magique ont fait partie de ma croissance personnelle et spirituelle, et sont un peu ma famille.

Je suis excitée de commencer une nouvelle phase de ma vie, incluant de nouveaux défis et une plus grande dévotion à ma famille. Je laisse la boutique entre bonnes mains et j’ai confiance dans le futur. J’ai travaillé avec Scarlet pendant plus d’une décennie; son énergie et sa vision fera en sorte que Le Mélange Magique continue sa mission dans le futur. Le Mélange Magique sera guidé par une main ferme. Je souhaite à Scarlet et Valérie des années de bonheur et de prospérité.

Message des nouvelles propriétaires

C’est avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme que nous commençons notre nouvelle vie de propriétaires du Mélange Magique. Scarlet a travaillé à la boutique depuis 1999 et a été impliquée dans la communauté païenne de Montréal depuis 1994. Elle a hâte de continuer à servir la communauté païenne.

Valérie a pris plusieurs cours dans le domaine de la magie et du paganisme depuis quelques années et a aussi complété une formation de guérisseur en tant qu’ostéopathe. Elle a hâte de contribuer au domaine de la magie et à la communauté en introduisant un volet de guérison à la boutique.

Le Mélange Magique s’engage à offrir une sélection complète de produits pouvant servir aux adeptes de spiritualité alternative, incluant la Wicca, le Paganisme, la Magie, le culte de la Déesse, la Sorcellerie et le Santeria. Alors que nous avons de nouvelles idées pour le magasin, nous ne compromettrons pas les bases stables de la boutique. Nous sommes intéressées de connaître l’opinion de la communauté par rapport aux produits et services que nous offrirons.

Une énergie et des idées nouvelles provenant des employés ont inspiré une transition excitante de la boutique! Voici quelques évènements qu’il vous faut noter pour le mois d’avril.

31 mars, jeudi, jusqu’à 21h : Debra sera à la boutique toute la journée pour rencontrer les gens voulant lui dire au revoir et lui souhaiter tout de bon dans sa nouvelle vie. Venez célébrer avec elle!

1^er avril, vendredi :

- « Penny Incense Day » : venez dépenser votre 1¢ chanceux sur un paquet d’encens « mélange mystère ».

- Jour de Kwan Yin/Kannon : venez célébrer cette déesse asiatique et aidez-nous à amasser des fond pour le Japon.

4 avril, lundi : venez célébrer avec les nouvelles propriétaires! Venez nous rencontrer, nous poser des questions, nous donner des suggestions et partager le thé avec nous!

7 avril, jeudi, Journée de la Santé Mondiale :

- Venez rencontrer les guérisseurs de la communauté et savoir ce qu’ils peuvent faire pour vous.

- Venez essayer certaines techniques de guérison gratuitement!

- Prenez rendez-vous avec les guérisseurs pour des séances complètes (nouveau à la boutique, les lundis seront les jours réservés pour les guérisseurs au lieu d’avoir des astrologues sur le plancher).

22 avril, vendredi, Jour de la Terre :

- Des semis d’herbes seront à vendre.

- De nouveaux SACS RÉUTILISABLES seront disponibles, enfin!

- Rituel à 19-20h pour le Jour de la Terre, mené par les employés du magasin.

Hello everybody,

This week's featured tea is all about comfort and well being.
It is The Cream of Earl Grey and it's origins are from Sri Lanka.

Basicly, it is black tea with vanilla (vanilla is good for love and comfort) and bergamot (which is good for communication and meditation) Cream of Earl Grey is associated with the root chakra, because it is earthy and grounding. Take a cup before meditation and it will make you feel good and relaxed.

Having a cup before doing energy work, will help you ground yourself.

Having a bad day? Feeling down, winter is getting to you???
Curl up with a good book and a cup of earl grey and it will make you feel better almost instantly!

The juice of bergamot (which resembles a not ripe orange) has been used in Indiginous medicine as a herbal remedy, and it's essential oil is popular in aromatherapy.

To try it, is to adopt it. Come on, have a cup, you will love it!
