Scarlet's Reviews on New Books

Magical Self Defence: A Quantum Approach to Warding
By: Kerr Cuhulain
$18.50 ISBN# 9780738712192
This trusted Canadian author has written such great books as Law Enforcement Guide to Wicca, Wiccan Warrior, and Full Contact Magick. He was a police officer in British Columbia and has come out with yet another amazing book of protection and energy work. This is not a book for the beginner (much like Full Contact Magick), but a book for the intermediate wanting to explore new or different techniques.

Crafting Wiccan Traditions: Creating a Foundation for Your Spiritual Beliefs & Practices
By: Raven Grimassi
$18.50 ISBN# 9780738711089
While I would not normally recommend anything by Grimassi except Strega tradition books, this one is a pleasant surprise. It walks the reader through how to clearly define your spiritual practice. It is an excellent book for people wanting or considering starting a coven. While other coven-related books look at how to run a coven and manage the ins and outs and troubles and challenegs, this book is more fountational. I would recommend starting with this book and then moving to one of the other great coven books (like Amber K's Covencraft or Judy Harrow's Wicca Covens).

Llewellyn's 2008 Witches' Companion
$11.50 ISBN# 9780738715606
Llewellyn has produced its own Spring to Spring almanac chalk full of amazing articles on contemporary issues by an incredible selection of authors. The last section of the book contains a set of calendars and monthy advice. There is a Moon Void of Course chart, a list of eclipses and full moon, and some space for personal notes. All in all, I am very impressed. I think this is coming home with me today.

Priestess of the Forest: A Druid Journal
By: Ellen Evert Hopman
$21.95 ISBN# 9780738712628
This is a trade paperback novel. While it is a work of fiction, it is considered educational fiction. This means Hopman hopes to teach people about the path of the druid priestess thru the eyes of a fictional character. She provides you with some excellent reference help: Glossary of Gaelic words, a list of further reading for historical and cultural reference, and a fascinating intervew that she had done and had transcribed into the book about her work on it.
