The Big Idea: Neo-Paganism

The radio station The Big Idea invited Scarlet and Hobbes to speak about paganism and the meaning of Halloween. The interview is available at The Big Idea website here:

http://bigideackut.blogspot.com/2009/10/neo-paganism.html

"This time we talk about contemporary Paganism and the pagan meaning of Halloween. I am joined by Scarlet Cougar from the Montreal pagan supply store Melange Magique (http://www.themagicalblend.com/) and Hobbes, a Pagan writer and storyteller involved in the Montreal Pagan Resource Center (http://www.paganuniverse.com/mprc/). We discuss what Paganism is, what it means to be a Pagan today and how they approach holidays we would not usually connect with anything too religious. Hobbes and I also sing a (somewhat altered) Christmas carol towards the end!"

A Halloween Treat

To celebrate one of the staff's favourite holidays, Melange is offering a Halloween treat to our customers! The Trick is that we ask you to arrive in your best costumes. Those adorning costumes* will receive 10% off on their purchase on October 31st!

*Please note, coming dressed as a muggle does not apply.

How can classic epic stories such as King Arthur, The Arch of Noah, the stories of Heracles, Taliesin, Thor’s battle with the Giants, the adventures of Sigurd(Sigfried), so on and so forth, influence our value system? How were our ancestors influenced by such stories? Are these legends, myths and stories, holding any secret messages for us to discover? What has happened to our love of story-telling and how is our society shaped by the “old legends” today? How have these legends manifested themselves in the story-telling of today?
