Wishful Thinking
With Ostara on the way and spring just around the corner, now is the perfect time to perform spells for luck, prosperity, and fulfilling wishes. The fertile energy of buds blooming and revitalizing energy of the sun help to bring wishes into fruition.
One way to harness this energy is by writing a wish and planting with a seed in a flower pot. As you nurture and care for your growing plant, you will in turn nurture and care for your desires. If gardening is not quite your thing, write your wish in a book dedicated to expressing your desires. Feel free to come to the store and write your wish in our Wish Book of Shadows located in the Le Mélange Magique Public Altar Space.
We wish you the best of luck in your endeavors, and a prosperous and successful year!

Pagan Discussion Night
Our Pagan/Alternative Spirituality Identities: Internal and External Perceptions
Let’s Discuss: How we see ourselves living our paganism/alternative beliefs (As practicing individuals, In our personal circles of family and friends, As students, As professionals), How we see ourselves as “communities” or movement (Personal Covens or spiritual groups, Cultural influences on our beliefs (QC-Ont. Example), Is there a “need or want” for community/unity?), How the outside sees “us” / their misconceptions and our reputation (Are we still perceived as ‘evil worshippers’?, Are we seen as simply following a “freak” belief system?, Is the outside opinion important or not? Should we care?, Discussing our beliefs, still the taboo subject?, Should we “advocate” as once happened in the early movement?)

Knowing the Difference - Greg Stroll
How does one know the difference between warning signs of mental illness and the growing desire to explore psychic abilities and the paranormal? When does someone cross the line from the realm of the psychic into self-delusion, or even mental instability? These and similar questions will be approached from a rational understanding of both sides of the coin. How to practice securely with all these doubts and fears as well as knowing what the actual risk factors may be are both prevalent on most people's minds before they get involved. Knowing the difference can really make an impact on your ability to engage a spiritual side of yourself that mainstream reality would tell you to keep hidden. Join Greg Stroll, author of In the Heart of Fear One forgets One's Self, to explore these questions.

Spellcraft 101 (Bilingual) - Brenda & Francois
Casting spells can sometimes seem difficult. There is the general misconception that spells must be complicated and intricate, and that only a special few know how to craft a spell properly. In actuality, all it takes is a little knowledge and knowing how to do your own research. Spellcraft 101 introduces you to the basics of magic and the crafting of spells. A few of the topics to be covered are: Magic and how it works, timing your spell, simple ingredients and how to craft your own spell. Spellcraft 102 expands on the ideas covered in spellcraft 101 . We will discuss planetary hours, moons through the zodiac, a few more advanced ideas in spell crafting and more.

Relief Results!
A heartfelt congratulations and 'thank you' goes out to all the volunteers and donors from this weekend's Divine Relief fundraiser. Together we raised over $1 300 to benefit the Redcross relief work for victims of the earthquake in Haiti. As the government of Canada is matching all donations made up until February 12th, this means our contribution will make up $2600!
I think we'll all be able to smile about that for a while.
In especial I want to express my gratitude to Catharine Allan for all the work she did to pull this together. She really gave a lot of her time and energy to make this event a success. So too did JD Hobbes of the MPRC. On behalf of the Montreal community, THANK YOU!

Blue Moon
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 31ST @ 14H14 (2:14PM), 2009
NEW YEAR'S EVE
NEW YEAR'S EVE
An uncommon astrological event spurs the term "Once in a Blue Moon" to mean not very often. This is due to the infrequency of a second full moon occurring within a single calendar month. There are approximately 41 Blue Moon within each century.
This is a time to harness the strength of the full moon and make the rare suddenly very possible. Enact great change in your life, make a wish, do something you would only do "Once in a Blue Moon" and ENJOY it!
For news on this event see the following article:
Lunar event happens ‘once in a blue moon’
• Phenomenon has nothing to do with color, everything to do with time
By Naomi KloudaHomer Tribune
While a blue moon consistently gives poets fodder and feeds the imagination of stargazers, its presence is a scientific marker for a rotating earth that by its own clock, ignores the Julian calendar.
And only once in every 20 years, the blue moon appears on New Year’s Eve, as it will this year.
“The moon is out of phase with the days – for it to make its complete cycle it’s about 28 days. It doesn’t coincide with our month, and that’s why it is out of sync with our Julian calendar,” explained retired high school science teacher Bob Hartley “It’s simply the occurrence of two full moons in one month.”
The moon brings with it heightened energy for tides and ushers in new weather patterns. This year’s tide will be minus 4.5 feet, the lowest of the month, at 8:18 a.m. on Dec. 31. High tide that day will be 20.8 feet at 1:37 p.m., though it isn’t the month’s highest tide.

Magic of Snow
Ever consider the wondrous and miraculous world of snow and snowflakes? Every snowflake is unique. By some miracle they crystallize into forms that are NEVER the same twice. This miracle lends its magic to the mystical sparkling of the snow through the crystalline reflections. They are magic, magic you can share with your children, too.
Here are some ideas of things to do with kids and the magic of the snowflake.
Teach them about the first man to photograph the snowflake: Wilson Bentley. (http://snowflakebentley.com) This man managed to photograph the snowflake in the early 1920's. Draw snowflakes or use white chalk on dark blue construction paper. Do snowflake cut outs too!
Other fun things to do include these fun stocking stuffers:
- little snowman kit
- little Christmas tree kit
Enjoy the beauty of our snow. Step out in the evening and see the glittering magic of the snowflakes upon the ground.
